Ellen B. Shankman heads her firm, specializing in strategic brand protection, trademark protection and enforcement, licensing, copyright, Internet and domain name issues.
Ms. Shankman has more than 25 years’ experience in trademark and intellectual property law, including representation of small start-ups through Fortune 20 companies. She is ranked as one of Israel’s leading trademark lawyers including in: World Trademark Review 1000, Who’s Who, Legal 500, Chambers, and Managing Intellectual Property’s Expert Guide to Trademark Law Practitioners.
International Trademark Association (INTA) credentials include: Board of Directors, Chair of INTA’s Internet Committee and Chair of INTA’s Building Bridges Committee for the 2016-2017 Committee Term. Recipient of INTA’s first ever Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of the Association for work in the Internet area.
ICANN credentials include: Nominating Committee (NomCom), Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT), Policy Council of the Generic Domain Name Supporting Organization (GNSO), and Officer of the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC).
Ellen is a UDRP Panelist for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). She has drafted rules for the allocation of domain names under the ‘.il’ ccTLD and serves as an IL-DRP Panelist.
She is a frequent lecturer and author on trademark and Internet issues, including in: Oxford University Press, Sweet & Maxwell, and others. Having practiced law in the US as a litigator before making Aliya in 1986, Ms. Shankman is admitted to practice before the Israel, New York, Massachusetts and Maryland Courts, as well as before the US Federal and Supreme Courts.
